Former Manchester midfielder Samir Nasri has revealed an anecdote about his past weight altercation with manager Pep Guardiola.
Nasri said in an interview 크크크벳with the French media ‘L’Equipe’ on the 26th (Korean time), “When I was at Manchester City, Guardiola shouted at me to lose weight.”
Nasri, who was at Manchester City from 2011 to 2017, met in the summer of 2016 when Guardiola took over as new manager.
At the time, Guardiola excluded Nasri from the summer pre-season tour roster as soon as he took office, but the reason for the exclusion was none other than being overweight.
Nasri recalled this time, “Guardiola called me into his office on the first day he took over and asked, ‘What do you want to do?’ did.
“After that, in the first training session, I thought everything was going well, but the next day, Guardiola called me and yelled at me about my weight.”
Guardiola, a world-renowned coach, is famous for demanding strict standards for his players in order to play high-quality football. This includes strict weight management.
“Keep your voice down, don’t yell at me. I’m not a child, I’m 29,” Nasri said, angry at Guardiola for pointing out his weight in public.
In response to Nasri’s protest, Guardiola immediately apologized, saying, “It’s true. I’m sorry.”
However, Nasri left Sevilla on loan ahead of the 2016/17 season after being excluded from the summer pre-season list after failing to lose the weight that Guardiola wanted. Even after returning from Sevilla, he was not trusted and transferred to Galatasaray.
Nasri, who was once regarded as having the qualities to become one of the world’s best playmakers during his time with Arsenal and the French national team, has failed to reach the expected level due to his ups and downs and lack of self-management.
“Guardiola’s players who weighed more than 2.5kg over the ideal weight were not allowed to participate in team training and had to train individually,” he said.
