KIA Tigers ace Yang Hyun-jong (35) has reached the 100-strikeout plateau for the ninth consecutive year.
Yang Hyun-jong recorded his 100th strikeout of the season in the second inning of the 12th game of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League against Doosan at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on Sunday.토토사이트
Trailing 0-1 in the second inning, Yang faced Park Kye-beom with the bases loaded and struck out swinging. After working a favorable 1B-2S count, he used a four-pitch changeup to induce a swinging strike. It was Yang’s 100th strikeout of the 2023 season.
With this strikeout, Yang has now struck out 100 batters in nine consecutive years, dating back to 2014. With the exception of 2021, when he joined the Texas Rangers in Major League Baseball, Yang has struck out in triple digits for 10 consecutive seasons.
This is the third-longest streak in KBO history, behind only KT manager Lee Kang-cheol and Doosan’s Jang Won-jun. Lee broke the strikeout record by striking out 100 batters in 10 consecutive seasons from 1989-1998, while Jang Won-jun struck out 100 batters in 10 consecutive seasons with Lotte and Doosan from 2007-2018 (excluding his military service in 2012-2013).
With the addition of Jung Soo-bin’s strikeout in the second inning, Yang now has 1,915 career strikeouts, ranking second on the all-time strikeout list behind Hanwha’s Song Jin-woo (2,048). He ranks first among active players.
